We have developed a set of resources that present oral health promoters with a variety of options in terms of embedding key messages in the 3 to 5 year old, and their parents, target groups. We use the medium of play to reinforce and raise awareness of the following key messages for children and their parents:
Oral Health:
• Brush teeth twice a day, especially last thing at night
• Use a pea sized amount of fluoride toothpaste
• Spit out toothpaste not rinse with water
• Use the correct strength fluoride toothpaste i.e. family strength fluoride toothpaste
• Assist/supervise children to brush their teeth
• Visit the dentist regularly
Healthy eating (messages selected for their ability to have a positive impact on oral health):
• Eat tooth-friendly snacks between mealtimes - it is much better for your teeth and health
• Sugary foods and drinks are best eaten at mealtimes
• Drinking plain milk and water is good for your teeth
Options for using the resources
Option 1 - the Smile Sack
We can personalise (brand) the sack and add any combination of resources to support programmes where Smile Sacks are offered to schools (see For schools for information about the Smile Sack contents).

The Smile Sack project in NHS Tees had tremendous success in embedding key oral health messages and changing behaviour in the target groups (see Case Studies). The Take Home bag element enabled young children to transfer their knowledge of the games from school to the home setting, where parents and siblings could share and reinforce the key messages and begin the process of behaviour change.
Option 2 - Box sets (1)
Our box sets are a delightful option for programmes where it is the intention to offer resources to parents to reinforce the oral health messages at home.
The quality boxes can be personalised (branded) and can include tailored literature to support any planned programmes. For instance, we can supply localised dental surgery contact details on cards as part of the boxed set.

Each box set consists of 23 counters, 2 Dentist boardgame cards and an instruction sheet that highlights the variety of engaging games and activities that can be played with the counter sets and boardgame cards.
Box sets (2)
We have been asked to supply a presentation box to be used as a prize for schools completing an oral health programme. The box lid is personalised and contains sponsors' logos, etc.

Option 3 - Bag sets
Bag sets are a collection of the resources that can be used by home visitors to engage parents and their younger children during home visits (see Case Studies).

As an example of potential Bag set contents, for NHS Tees Child Centre home visit staff we included counter sets, the Dentist boardgame, the CD , the Going to the Dentist book, the crocodile puppet and a special story to read with the puppet.
Option 4 - Bespoke solutions
At Learning Days we develop educational resources for all age groups. You may have a project or idea in mind that requires adaptation or input to ensure suitability for use in schools. You may even have your own range of resources to add to our own collection with a new campaign or project in mind.
Contact us and we can discuss all options.
New products
Many specialists that we have been talking to have suggested new game ideas and we are delighted to offer three new games to add to our collection. Two of these games utilise the existing counter sets and the What am I hiding? is based on the counter designs. These are low cost additions - contact us for details.
