We develop educational resources aimed at 3 to 5 year olds, and their parents, that raise awareness and embed important oral health and healthy eating messages through the medium of play.
We have put together a combination of our new resources in order for Dental Surgeries to make a real difference to the oral health of young children and their families in their local areas. We have called this the Smile Sack sponsorship scheme.
The Smile Sack sponsorship scheme
A small group of local nurseries (private or state) are provided with a Smile Sack courtesy of the local Dental Surgery. The Smile Sack consists of a variety of games and activities (see 'For schools') that promote the following oral health and healthy eating messages -
Oral Health:
Healthy eating:
We have developed a Dentist Game box set as an alternative to the Take Home bags normally offered to schools. Parents are given a box (there are 3 boxes in the Smile Sack) to take home so that their youngest children can play the games with them and with their siblings. The children will be familiar with the games having played them in nursery.

The box lid contains the details of the sponsoring Practise with the additional message that the children can see 'Snacks the Snake' at the surgery:

One of the most popular items in the Smile Sack is our 3 metre long Snacks the Snake floor mat. Nurseries use this in many ways and counter sets are utilised in support. We have reproduced the Snacks the Snake mat in a 1.5 metre long laminated poster which incorporates the counter images, games to play and game instructions.

Mounted low on a wall, the poster becomes a colourful and engaging focal point for all youngsters. For those children whose nurseries use the floor mat regularly, the sight of Snacks the Snake is a reassuring presence in any play area.
Dental Surgeries only need to provide the names of their local nurseries and we will handle all contact with the nursery or school and deliver the Smile Sacks directly to them. We can identify the local nurseries or schools if necessary. Dental Surgeries may want to deliver the Smile Sacks personally and, if permission to photograph is granted, use the event to generate local publicity. A press release template can be provided. A sponsorship certificate is also provided for display purposes. This identifies all the local nurseries and schools that the Surgery has supported in order to proactively raise awareness about good oral health practise.
